Submission

Our online submission system guides you stepwise through the process of entering your article details and uploading your files.
Manuscripts should be submitted online at Article Submission

Ensure that the following items are present:

 
  • The manuscript has been provided as the instruction of this journal( can be found below)   
  • All necessary files have been uploaded.
  • References are in the correct format for this journal.
  • All Figures and Tables mentioned in the main text are cited in the text, and vice versa.  
  • Photographs, scientific graphs, and other illustrations should be uploaded as separate files, not embedded in Microsoft Word.   

All manuscripts must be accompanied by a cover letter. The letter should include the following statement:
(1) The submitted paper is an original and unpublished work in which the listed authors have all made essential contributions.
(2) The authors have not submitted the same material or portions therefore for consideration of publication in any other journal.
(3) Statement of any potential conflict of interest.
Authors are welcomed to suggest three to five referees for their paper; however, the editors cannot guarantee the assignment of a particular review to a paper. Any unusual circumstances surrounding the research or explanations for deviation from standard procedures or format should be explained in the cover letter.
 

Article Types

 
Original Research papers

Original research papers should present new results of interest to a broad spectrum of pathologists. Papers must describe significant and original observations that can be critically evaluated and if necessary, repeated. They should be arranged as follows: Title page, Abstract, Abbreviations, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion,  Declarations, References, Figure legends. The maximum length for an original article is 5,000 words (not including the abstract, tables, figure legends, and references). Abstracts must not exceed 250 words and should be constructed as a single narrative paragraph without any subheadings or references. Submissions are limited to a total of 7 figures, and a limit of 100 references is recommended.
 

Case Reports

Case reports will be considered only if they represent a significant advance in diagnostic methods, therapy, and prognosis or highlight substantial scientific advances in understanding the mechanism(s) of the disease process. They should be prefaced by a brief introduction, highlighting the salient message, and their discussion should be confined to unusual aspects, not a major review of the literature. They should be arranged as follows: Title page, Abstract, Abbreviations, Introduction, Case Report, Discussion, References, and legends. Full-length case reports should amount to no more than 2000 words (not including references). For case studies, abstracts should not exceed 150 words and must be included Background, Case & Conclusion.
 

Short communication

There will be special arrangements for rapid communications that will justify very rapid publication because of their exceptionally broad general interest or strikingly novel findings. The submitted paper should be self-contained and not a tentative preliminary communication. It will be referred very quickly and any revision must be dealt with promptly. If the editors consider the article unsuitable for publication as a rapid communication it will be processed as a normal paper unless the authors withdraw it. Short Communications are limited to 2000 words.
 

Letters to the Editor

Letters to the Editor can only be submitted by invitation from the Editor-in-Chief, Relating to papers recently published in the Journal, or containing brief reports of unusual or preliminary findings. This article type should have a clear and concise title, a maximum length of 400 words, one table or figure, and a maximum of 10 references. However, additional Figures or tables could be posted as online Supplemental Data.

 
Review articles

Pre-submission is required (title, author information, abstract, and figures should be sent to modernmedlabgmail.com). Review articles are actively encouraged and should be composed of systematic, critical assessments of literature and data sources pertaining to diagnostic topics. All articles and data sources reviewed should include information about the specific type of study or analysis. The instructions for narrative Review Articles are the same as those for Original Articles. The Systematic Review format is preferred wherever possible and appropriate. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses should be reported following the recommendations of the PRISMA statement (http://www.prisma-statement.org).

Title

The title should be concise and informative. If the article describes a study please include the study design.

Author Information

  • Authors' full first names and surnames (Authors’ names separate with commas. No full stops after initials.)
  • The affiliation(s) of the author(s), i.e. institution, (department), city, (state), country (For authors that are (temporarily) unaffiliated we will only capture their city and country of residence)
  • Name, address, e-mail, telephone, and fax numbers of the corresponding author
  • If available, the 16-digit ORCID of the author(s)
 
Abstract
An organized abstract comprising Objectives, Materials& Methods, Results& Discussion of 250 words or less should be prepared on a separate sheet and should be intelligible to the general reader without reference to the text. Avoid the use of abbreviations.

Keywords
Please provide 4 to 6 keywords that can be used for indexing purposes.

Graphical abstract
A graphical abstract (GA) is an image that appears alongside the text abstract in the Table of Contents. In addition to summarizing content, it should represent the topic of the article in an attention-grabbing way. Although a graphical abstract is optional, its use is highly encouraged as it draws more attention to the online article. The minimum required size for the GA is 560 × 1100 pixels (height × width). When submitting larger images, please make sure to keep to the same ratio. The image should be readable at a size of 5 × 13 cm using a regular screen resolution of 96 dpi. Preferred file types: TIFF, EPS, SVG, or PDF.
 
Highlights 
Three to six bullet points that describe the essence of the research (e.g. results or conclusions) and highlight what is distinctive about it.
Highlights will be displayed in online search result lists, the contents list, and in the online article, but will not (yet) appear in the article PDF file or print.
Specifications:
  • Include 3 to 6 highlights.
  • There should be a maximum of 100 characters, including spaces, per highlight.
  • Only the core results of the paper should be covered.
     Abbreviations
     Authors should provide a list of abbreviations on the title page. All acronyms in the text should be expanded at first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.
     The acronym may appear in the text thereafter.

Text

Text formatting 

The manuscript including 1) Introduction 2) Materials and Methods 3) Results 4) Discussion 5) Declaration 6) References 7) Figure Legends should be typed double-spaced, using a normal, plain font (e.g., 12-point Times Roman) for all the text and submitted in word.
Abbreviations must be spelled out the first time they are used, followed by the abbreviated form in parentheses, thereafter they may be abbreviated without definition. Abbreviate units of measure only when used with numbers.
Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages. 

Headings

Please use no more than three levels of displayed headings.

Footnotes

Footnotes can be used to give additional information, Footnotes to the text are numbered consecutively; those to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data). Footnotes to the title or the authors of the article are not given reference symbols. Always use footnotes instead of endnotes.
 

Declarations

All manuscripts must contain the following sections under the heading 'Declarations'.
If any of the sections are not relevant to your manuscript, please include the heading and write 'Not applicable' for that section.

Acknowledgments (All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship as defined below should be listed here. Acknowledgments should include persons who provided technical help, writing assistance, and departmental head that only provided general support. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged.)

Funding (information that explains whether and by whom the research was supported)

Conflicts of interest/Competing interests (include appropriate disclosures)

Authors' contributions (Use this form to specify the contribution of each author of your manuscript.) 

Ethics approval (include appropriate approvals or waivers)

References

References should be arranged in order of citation in the text in the Vancouver style and numbered consecutively.

Tables, Figures, and Illustrations

Figures and tables should be kept to a necessary minimum, no more than seven, and their information should not be duplicated in the text. The position of figures and tables should be indicated in the manuscript.

Tables

  • Tables should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order.
  • For each table, please supply a table caption (title) explaining the components of the table.
  • Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data) and included beneath the table body.
  • Units of measurement must be clearly indicated.
 Figures and Illustrations
  • Figures should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order.
  • Figures should be submitted separately from the text.
  • Each figure should have a concise caption describing accurately what the figure depicts. Include the captions in the text file of the manuscript, not in the figure file.
  • Figure captions begin with the term Fig. in bold type, followed by the figure number, also in bold type. (Legends for the illustrations should be typed double spaced on a separate paper.)
  • No punctuation is to be included after the number, nor is any punctuation to be placed at the end of the caption.
  • Color images should be at least 300 DPI in JPEG, TIFF, or BMP format.
  • Illustrations should be designed to fit the journal page with a maximum plate size 254×203 mm, have an additional white border.

English Language editing

Please write your text in English (American or British usage is accepted). Authors who feel their English language manuscript may require editing to eliminate possible grammatical or spelling errors and to conform to correct scientific English may wish to use our English language editing service by sending a request to modernmedlabgmail.com.

Ethical Requirements

If the study involves human beings, the author(s) must include a statement that the study was approved by the local ethical committee and that informed consent was obtained from the study participants. If the work involves experimentation on living animals, the author(s) must provide evidence that the study was performed in accordance with local ethical guidelines. Permission

All relevant permissions to cite the unpublished observations of others must be obtained by the manuscript author(s). The names and initials of these persons must be cited in the text, and permission from the original publisher and author(s) must be obtained. Permission also must be obtained to reproduce or adapt any figures or tables that have been published previously.

Copyright

Mod Med Lab J believes in Copyright without Restrictions. The journal allows the author(s) to hold the copyright without restrictions and will retain publishing rights without restrictions.

The submitted papers are assumed to contain no proprietary material unprotected by patent or patent application; responsibility for technical content and for protection of proprietary material rests solely with the author(s) and their organizations and is not the responsibility of the Mod Med Lab or its Editorial Staff. The main (first/corresponding) author is responsible for ensuring that the article has been seen and approved by all the other authors. It is the responsibility of the author to obtain all necessary copyright release permissions for the use of any copyrighted materials in the manuscript prior to the submission.


 Conflicts of interest
 
Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest, such as receiving funds or fees by, or holding stocks and shares in, an organization that may profit or lose through publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not lead to automatic rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.
